Freelance blogger/buzz-builder for The Media Consortium

*Job Description*

Status: Freelance blogger/buzz-builder for “Weekly” news summary blogs. Contract is 3 months with option to renew.
Who: The Media Consortium
Compensation:* Weekly stipend of $150 for approx. 10 hours/week ($15/hour)

The Media Consortium, a network of leading progressive independent journalism organizations, announces a freelance blogging and promotions position for a web and independent media savvy journalist with strong background in immigration and immigration reform.

This work is a key component of The Media Consortium’s MediaWire project–an aggregation and distribution initiative intended to spotlight, build traffic and generate buzz for Media Consortium members’ reporting on the nation’s most critical issues including health care,immigration and the economy.

Media Consortium bloggers write weekly syndicated “best of” roundups
highlighting exemplary content from our members. Blog posts will be
based on content aggregated from the economy, environment, health care,
immigration feeds aggregated on Delicious. Opportunities for longer,
feature-length articles may arise later on. Articles and blog posts
written by Media Consortium bloggers are featured in leading blogs and
progressive journalism outlets across the country.

Job requirements include:

* Writing one weekly blog of 800-1000 words that rounds up and key
stories from Media Consortium members for syndication across the net.
* Using social networking tools such as Facebook and Twitter to draw attention to weekly posts/blog.
* Helping identify online communities and sites to promote and place blog posts.
* Joining scheduled calls with Media Consortium staff to plan outreach and coverage.

* At least 2 years experience as an issue-based or political blogger
or reporter
* Familiarity with progressive media organizations and the
political/issue-based blogging community.
* Comfortable with the concept of adding multimedia elements to
* Self-starter and team player with a sense of humor.

Translation Internship with Latinitas Magazine Available

Latinitas ( the first digital magazine made for and y young Latinas needs a translation intern for Summer and/or Fall 2010. Duties would include translating 6 short articles per month for the publishing of Latinitas and Teen Latinitas magazine online. The internship requires around 10 hours a week commitment, but is flexible.

Our offices are downtown, but this internship could be done anywhere since its translation. It’s a great way to use your writing skills to benefit the next generation of Latina youth and an impressive resume builder.

NALIP believes that a Producer is the creative originator of films, a self-starter who recognizes ideas that have artistic or commercial merit. Producers must have passion, sensitivity for story and audience, plus the organizational ability and practical smarts to put together a project, then guide it to and through the marketplace. NALIP’s Latino Producers Academy™ provides our Fellows with the practical skills and knowledge to accomplish their personal goals and realize their artistic dreams as filmmakers.

The 2010 LPA invites applications from Documentary Producers in two categories:
• Documentary producers/directors with projects in development or production who have proposals and sample tapes; they are invited with their producer/director partners .
• Documentary producers with projects in post-production who have rough cuts; they are invited with their editors.

The 2010 LPA invites applications from Narrative Feature Producers in two categories:
• Feature producers (including producer/directors or producer/writers) with projects in early stages of development that have viable scripts ready for packaging and advancement towards production; prior NALIP program participants must have advanced drafts.
• Feature producers and their directors who have scripts in advanced stages of development with a package or ready to package (e.g. budget, executive summary, attachments, etc.); prior NALIP program participants must have advanced drafts. Directors must have Producers.
