UT Study Abroad Guest Lecture: ¿Quienes somos? Dominicans Search for Identity on a Multicultural Island

The UT Study Abroad Office would like to invite UT staff, faculty and students to a brown bag presentation by the resident director for the study abroad program with CIEE in the Dominican Republic. This is an affiliated studies program and is open to UT students as a study abroad option. We encourage students interested in studying in the Dominican Republic to attend.

Join Dr. Lynne Guitar, CIEE Resident Director for the Dominican Republic, for her presentation: ¿Quienes somos? Dominicans¹ Search for Identity on a Multicultural Island² Dr. Guitar has lived in the Dominican Republic since 1997. She earned her M.A. in History and her Ph.D. in Colonial Latin American History and Anthropology at Vanderbilt University. Dr. Guitar¹s research interests focus on history and popular Dominican culture. Her presentation will cover pan-Caribbean identity issues and the daily reality of the centuries long Dominican-Haitian tug-of-war over scarce resources and critical present-day issues concerning economic survival, illegal migration, and human rights.
