Latin American Studies FLAS fellowships for summer/academic year due Feb. 4th

The Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies FLAS Fellowship applications are available for Summer 2011 and the 2011-2012 Academic Year. The competition is open to current UT-Austin undergraduate students (in good standing), who are interested in studying Portuguese or another arranged Amerindian language at the intermediate or advanced level.

Estimated Stipend:
Academic Year: $5,000—pending DOE approval (fall and spring semesters) plus UT tuition and fees (up to $10,000)
Summer: $2,500 (one summer session only) plus UT tuition and fees (up to $5,000).

Application Deadline: February 4, 2011.

o shows potential for superior academic achievement as indicated by a long-term interest in Latin America
o an undergraduate student in good standing at UT-Austin
o language study at the intermediate or advanced level

Cine Las Americas Film Fest Call for Entries

Deadline This Friday

Attention UT filmmakers! The early deadline for submitting your films to Cine las Americas is this Friday, January the 14th. The entry fee is only $15 if you submit by this Friday.

PLEASE NOTE: As long as you submit your form and fee online by this Friday, January the 14th, you can drop off/mail your dvd next week.

The festival showcases contemporary films from Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula, with a section that features films made in Texas. Films made by or about Latinos in the U.S. or the rest of the world, and films by or about indigenous groups of the Americas are also invited to participate. The festival will take place in Austin from April 21-28, 2011.
To be submitted for consideration, projects must have been completed after January 1, 2009. All film entries are also eligible to participate in the festival’s non-competitive sections. For all works where the spoken language is not English, English subtitles and/or narration are required.
