Latinitas seeks program leaders – paid stipend offered

Latinitas Magazine and Outreach is accepting applications for Club Latinitas Program Leaders and Mentors. We offer meaningful and fulfilling experience to help local girls by serving as an after-school program leader. Latinitas is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering Hispanic girls through media. The group executes its mission by publishing a bilingual webzine for Hispanic girls, facilitating after-school programs for junior reporters and by conducting innovative media workshops in the community. We implement an innovative educational program focused on teaching girls fun ways to express themselves through writing, photography, graphic design, filmmaking, radio production, and web design. Volunteers are needed to lead a school-based program for a group of 15-25 Hispanic girls in elementary and middle schools.
The ideal intern will have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Interns should be organized, resourceful, creative, enthusiastic, and proactive. We are looking for someone who is able to work independently as well as part of a team. Experience working with children preferred. Bilingual volunteers are encouraged to apply. This position is recommended for students with a major in communications, social work, or education. Interns must be computer literate, demonstrating proficiency with Microsoft Office and Internet navigation. Interns must be able to establish and maintain a good rapport and harmonious relationships with students, staff, and school administrators.
Latinitas provides an educational stipend at the successful completion of this internship position. Many interns arrange to receive academic and/or service learning credits for their work through their school. Position starts September 1st; interns must be willing to commit 10 hours per week for an entire school year. Interns must be available from 3:00-6:00pm two days a week ┬ĘC Mon.- Fri. Hours and days of work are flexible. Training will be provided and a paid stipend at the completion of the job.
Job Responsibilities:
Mentors youth and develop a one-on-one relationship with youth
Co-facilitates a media empowerment program for girls (4th-8th graders)
Collaborates with another community educator to lead group sessions
Plans and assists at media and technology workshops
Develops and implements curriculum for after-school program
Garners in-kind and financial support for outreach events
Act as a liaison between Latinitas and school personnel
Assists in our survey data collection and data entry
Organize field trips, special events & projects as needed
Promotes program on school campuses and recruits club members
Acts as editor for junior reporters
