Program Associate for Student Support and Short Term Programs
Earlham College invites applications for a position as Program Associate of its Border Studies Program based in El Paso, TX, and Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua. This program is designed to introduce undergraduate students from throughout the US to the complexities of the borderlands. Please see the program website at for a description of the program. This is a 12- month position.
Responsibilities include supporting the Resident Director in directing the program, providing student support, serving as the officer manager, planning special events, organizing short term border visits, and working as a team member with the program staff to ensure the successful execution of the all program elements.
Qualifications include excellent Spanish and English skills, experience in a Spanish speaking setting, a desire to work with and provide support to undergraduates in an off-campus program in a bicultural setting, excellent communication skills, experience in administrative work, counseling or social work skills, ability to work as a team member, ability to drive a van. Additionally, this person should be excited about traveling with a group of undergraduate students to various sites throughout the US Southwest and Mexico and helping to facilitate educational visits to the border for a wide variety of students. BA required, MA preferred.

Job Description
The duties of the Program Associate for Student Support and Short Term Groups of The Border Studies Program include working with many aspects of the off-campus academic program on the U.S./Mexico border in El Paso, Texas and Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua as well as in other areas of the border and Mexico.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
*Serve as primary student support person, providing on-going support to undergraduate students as they actively engage in a new cultural setting
*Participate in student selection process
*Work with Host Family Coordinator to negotiate student and family issues
* Inform students of activities in Juarez and El Paso
* Coordinate Casa Puente activities and hours
*Serve as primary office manager
*Maintain program files
*Help update program materials
*Send program updates and photos for website
*Maintain program hours in office
*Serve as primary special events planner
*Coordinate organization of Advisory Committee meetings on-site
*Coordinate organization of Orientation
*Coordinate organization of program retreats
*Participate in the planning and implementation of new semester program, with a willingness to take on new responsibilities as the program develops.
*Serve as primary short- term Border Immersion trip planner and facilitator
*Plan and coordinate 4-8 day visits to the border
*Work with college groups, student groups and others
* Other responsibilities as needed
*May include work with field studies, excursions, language support, recruiting
*Participate in staff meetings on the border and at Earlham
